RPL Sponsors 7th Annual Athena Film Festival

From February 9th to 12th, the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College and Women and Hollywood will host their 7th Annual Athena Film Festival, a yearly celebration of women’s leadership on view in an engaging weekend of feature films, documentaries, and short films that highlight powerful and courageous women in real life and in the fictional world. The four-day festival at Barnard College in New York City includes post-screening conversations with directors and talent, as well as workshops for filmmakers, and has quickly established itself as one of the most prestigious festivals of its kind.

The centerpiece film of this year’s festival will be the documentary City of Joy, written and directed by Madeleine Gavin, which tells the story of a community of women survivors of sexual violence in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The festival will close on Sunday, February 12th with the New York Premiere of documentary Dolores, directed by Peter Bratt. The film chronicles feminist union organizer Dolores Huerta who worked side-by-side with Cesar Chavez during their decades-long fight for workers’ rights.

RPL is a sponsor of the Athena Film Festival. Partners Helen D. “Heidi” Reavis and Nicole Page are proud to serve on the festival’s honorary host committee. And this year, Ms. Page will also lead a panel entitled “Contract Landmines: How to Navigate and Negotiate the Legal Side of Filmmaking” on Saturday, February 11th.
