Maria M. Patterson
Maria M. Patterson is a graduate of Davidson College (B.A., magna cum laude, 1979) and received her law degree from Columbia University School of Law (J.D., 1982), where she served as coordinator of the first year moot court program and General Manager for the Moot Court Board. Ms. Patterson’s practice areas encompass commercial litigation and bankruptcy, matters and disputes of an international nature, and corporate and real estate restructurings. Ms. Patterson has practiced in various settings, including one of New York’s largest international law firms and a litigation and bankruptcy boutique, and has served as in-house counsel at a major financial institution. Ms. Patterson’s tenure as in-house counsel appreciably enhanced her abilities to counsel corporate clients in a range of industries, circumstances and areas of the law. Her substantial litigation experience includes disputes in the federal and bankruptcy courts, as well as state courts in New York and elsewhere. She has handled a large number of complex disputes in the insolvency area as well as general litigations that cut across national boundaries and involve foreign law and institutions. Her experience also includes coordinating client responses to a range of government investigations and working with federal and state regulators to reorganize aspects of client businesses. Originally from North Carolina, Ms. Patterson has served as Chair of the Board of Visitors of Davidson College, served on the Board of the Columbia Law Alumni Association, and is active in the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, having served on the Judiciary Committee and the Committee on Foreign and Comparative Law. Ms. Patterson is Special Counsel to the Firm and a member of the bar of the State of New York and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
